CBS Films Announces 'Extraordinary Measures' Inspirational Quilt
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- CBS Films, the feature film division of CBS Corporation (NYSE:CBS.A)(NYSE:and)(NYSE:CBS), announced today that it has launched a digital Inspirational Quilt in conjunction with the studio's January 22, 2010, theatrical release, "Extraordinary Measures."
The quilt, which lives on the film's official website (www.extraordinarymeasuresthemovie.com), consists of inspirational videos that serve as the squares/patches. Through the quilt, charitable organizations and individuals can upload, explore and share stories of hope and inspiration. Early video uploads include the story of Alexandra "Alex" Scott, a young cancer patient who, facing a grim diagnosis, insisted on setting up a lemonade stand to raise money for childhood cancer before succumbing to the disease at age eight. Her stand evolved into a national lemonade stand initiative and foundation which has since raised over $25 million for the cause. Other videos highlight a mountaineer with Multiple Sclerosis who encourages and inspires other MS patients to find their own "mountains" to conquer, an inner city childrens' center in Harlem, and two women who joined forces to build a playground equipped for special needs children. The promotion will run through the film's opening.
A sweepstakes tied to the Inspirational Quilt invites participants and website visitors to vote for their favorite video(s). Each vote creates an additional entry on behalf of the respective video. At the end of the promotion, a video contributor will be chosen by random drawing and the grand prize winner will be given the opportunity to designate a charity of his or her choice to receive a $10,000 contribution from CBS Films. The sweepstakes is open to residents of the United States who are 18 years of age and older. Charitable organizations and individuals should go to the film's website for full sweepstakes rules.
The film and its tagline, "Don't Hope For a Miracle. Make One," are inspired by the film's real-life subject, John Crowley, a father who defied conventional wisdom and great odds, and risked his family's future to pursue a cure for his children's life- threatening disease. "Extraordinary Measures" is CBS Films' debut release.
