Digital Utilities Ventures Launches New Last Mile in South Africa
In Alliance with Moya Media, New Channel to Broadcast Live Cricket Matches over the Internet to TV Audiences
MIAMI, July 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Digital Utilities Ventures, Inc. (Pink Sheets: DUTV), an innovator in over the web video transport systems with its breakthrough New Last Mile Platform, announced today that it has agreed to a commercial trial with Moya Media for a new residential Moya Media branded, pay-per-view channel to stream cricket matches over the Internet to TV screens. Major cricket events in South Africa last year were watched on television by an estimated 7 million viewers. DUTV will also be able to provide additional traditional television services to viewers.
The New Last Mile uses an Internet based platform to deliver its TV programming. All the viewer needs is a broadband connection, either fiber or WIFI, to the Internet to tap into the DUTV Network. Then, acting as a virtual cable company, it piggybacks on the existing broadband connection to stream live programs of broadcast quality from anywhere in the world over the Internet directly to TV audiences and Cell Phone subscribers without having to build out proprietary fiber optic lines to homes...and it can do this using under 1 megabit of the Internet as the backbone to the television set or cell phone. This is an ideal platform for live sporting events, television broadcasts, and movies.
"This commercial trial comes as one of many contracts we are negotiating in Africa," said Garry McHenry, President of Digital Utilities Ventures, Inc. (DUTV). "This continent is a key focus in our global expansion plans because of its fragmented communication infrastructure and lack of last mile connectivity. "With our New Last Mile solution for IPTV, Africa will represent a significant source of our revenue in 2010."
