Akira Kurosawa Tribute to Take Place March 23 at Beverly Hills Hotel

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif., March 20 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Akira Kurosawa's upcoming memorial to be held at the Beverly Hills Hotel Crystal Ballroom on Monday March 23rd is set to be an emotional affair with friends paying tribute to one of the most celebrated and influential directors of the silver screen. Top Hollywood directors have already started to send in their respects and tributes through video presentations recognizing Kurosawa as a major influence in their works.

The private party for invited guests will be an intimate affair featuring entertainment specially flown in from Japan, with traditional dancing, music and exquisite Kimono models bringing a taste of Kurosawa's Japan to Beverly Hills. In attendance will be a number of celebrities and the Kurosawa family themselves, who arrived in LA this week. Personal video tributes from Steven Spielberg and Martin Scorsese, who unfortunately are unable to attend, are expected to be shown and invites have gone out to many individuals who were influenced by Kurosawa.

"There has been a staggering response to the tribute, as we have seen many top figures want to honor a master of cinema who helped shape what we see on the screen today," says Darrell Nelson the Liaison Office Director from Anaheim University's Akira Kurosawa School of Film, one of the organizers of the gala event. "Judging by the messages we have already received and the guest list attending it is clear that even after 10 years of Kurosawa's passing he is held in very high regard within the film industry."

The intimate evening is a closed door affair, however there will be an exhibition of Kurosawa's work and memories on show to the public from 3:30 p.m. in the foyer of the Crystal Ball Room in the Beverly Hills Hotel, which will highlight his masterpieces, and visitors will be able to view private "behind the scenes" photos of his life. As a private evening, the door is closed to press but those wishing to cover the event must contact Anaheim University Studios at 714-772-3330 or admin@anaheim.edu. www.anaheim.edu/gala
