Instruments of the Immortals Come to Steinway Miami
LONG ISLAND CITY, N.Y., Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Steinway & Sons, makers of the finest pianos in the world, brings its Legendary Instruments of the Immortals Tour to the Steinway Piano Gallery in Miami, December 7th through December 31, 2008. The Tour provides music lovers with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to play two legendary pianos: the performance concert grands of Vladimir Horowitz and Van Cliburn, two of the music world's most revered performance artists.
The Vladimir Horowitz Steinway concert grand, one of two instruments to be exhibited as part of the Instruments of the Immortals Tour, was Horowitz's touring instrument until his death in 1989. Horowitz used this piano exclusively wherever he performed, including the historic concerts marking his return to Moscow and Leningrad, as well as renowned concerts in Japan, Europe, Great Britain and the White House. The Horowitz piano was built in the early 1940's, and since Horowitz's death it has been used by other notable performers including Rudolf Firkusny, Horacio Gutierrez, Alicia de Larrocha and Murray Perahia.
The second Steinway piano to be exhibited at the Gallery is the concert grand piano owned by the legendary pianist Van Cliburn. This instrument is on loan from Cliburn's personal collection; it has been played exclusively by the famed pianist since its construction. Van Cliburn rocketed to worldwide fame after winning the coveted Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow during the height of the Cold War in 1958. He is the only pianist in history to have been honored with a ticker-tape parade in New York City, and his recordings have smashed all sales records for classical music recordings.
"This is an opportunity like none other for lovers of piano music," said Todd Sanders, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Steinway & Sons. "To play a Steinway piano is to brush fingers with greatness, and these particular instruments make that point loud and clear. It's an honor to make these pianos available to people who will appreciate them."
The Steinway Piano Gallery Miami is located at 4104 Ponce de Leon Blvd, Coral Gables, FL 33146. The Instruments of the Immortals Tour will run from December 7th through December 31st. The Gallery is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please call 305-774-9878 or visit www.steinway.com.
