Daniel Pearl World Music Days Draws a Record Number of Performances With More Than 1,000 Events in 59 Countries During October
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The 7th Annual Daniel Pearl World Music Days, honoring the legacy of murdered journalist and musician Daniel Pearl, brought together an unprecedented global audience during the month of October, with more than 1,000 concerts in 59 countries, dedicated to the theme of "Harmony For Humanity." Thousands of musicians, ranging from professionals to amateurs to youth artists of every imaginable genre, united in one voice to promote tolerance and understanding of our shared humanity.
World Music Days (www.danielpearlmusicdays.org) began in 2002 as an international "jam session" to commemorate Pearl's October 10th birthday. Today, Daniel Pearl World Music Days has grown to become a worldwide phenomenon; rallying artists and fans alike behind Pearl's faith in the power of music to connect people of diverse backgrounds.
"It is immensely gratifying to see the growth of Danny's legacy from year to year," said Judea Pearl, Danny's father and president of the Daniel Pearl Foundation. "We are proud of everyone involved from school children to major classical orchestras, celebrated rock and jazz stars, and masters of world beat sounds on every continent. Whether the dedications were by a college student playing in a coffee house in Oman or the legendary fiddler and singer Alison Krauss in front of 25,000 bluegrass fans in San Francisco, each artist's support of the Daniel Pearl World Music Days' message has empowered audiences with a sense of purpose and unity."
In light of the overwhelming success of the 7th Annual World Music Days and the request of many musicians who had performances outside the month of October and wished to be part of this global initiative, the Foundation will continue to register such performances and designate them as "Tribute Events."
"Our Event Calendar and Artist Pages include biography, photos, videos and links that are viewed by thousands of music lovers throughout the year. Many participants find that being listed often results in increased concert attendance," explained Paul Karlsen, Program Manager of Daniel Pearl World Music Days. "We also invite musicians to submit audio and visual materials documenting their World Music Days and Tribute concerts to the Harmony for Humanity e-Stage. This online gallery features some of Danny's articles, as well as multi-media tributes to his legacy as a musician and journalist who brought to light the human side behind the news and connected people of diverse cultures."
The Daniel Pearl Foundation works domestically and internationally to promote cross-cultural understanding, to counter cultural and religious hatred, to encourage responsible and creative journalism, and to unite people through music. For more information, please visit www.danielpearl.org.
