DULUTH, Ga., Oct. 15 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Wegener Corporation (NASDAQ:WGNR), a leading provider of equipment for television, audio and data distribution networks worldwide, today at SATCON 2008 announces its new Nielsen(R) SpoTTrac(R) Digital encoder product, which supports Nielsen(R) Tracking Services.

SpoTTrac Digital encoder is an encoding and watermarking solution that WEGENER manufactures for The Nielsen Company, the industry leader in TV ratings, to enable the automated broadcast verification and commercial tracking services offered through its Nielsen Tracking Services division. SpoTTrac Digital enables Nielsen's customers-including broadcasters, advertisers, and producers-to verify that their high definition (HD) and standard definition (SD) commercials, public service announcements, promos, and other media content air on television and to track audience exposure to those messages.

A turnkey HDTV solution, SpoTTrac Digital encodes HD-SDI (1080i and 720p) high-definition (HD) video and four channels of AES/EBU audio; as well as SDI- SD (NTSC) standard-definition A/V signals, with up to 12 channels of SDI embedded audio. During the realtime encoding process, SpoTTrac Digital embeds Nielsen's patented watermarking identification information into the video and audio content without affecting picture or sound quality. As part of its workflow, SpoTTrac Digital automatically transfers the tracking information files for automated spot monitoring and reporting via the Internet to the Nielsen data facility at the end of encoding sessions.
