Why Use DarbeeVision?

One of the reasons that we experience visual depth is because our two eyes are horizontally displaced. Our brains interpret a strong sense of depth from the binocular disparity that we get by looking at the world from two different viewpoints, but when we look at a 2D image, we only get one viewpoint. DarbeeVision has discovered a way to create 2D images that nevertheless contain compelling depth information. DVn embeds real or synthesized disparity information into 2D images as depth cues and detail enhancements. DarbeeVision 2.5D Enhancement Explained

Paul Darbee discovered that you get convincing image enhancements when you 'smuggle' binocular depth information into 2D images. The program uses a simple, elegant and yet powerful variation of the common unsharp mask, where the procedure is to defocus and subtract one image of a stereo pair from the other, rather than defocusing and subtracting an image from itself. The new, simple, and unexpected result gives you a '2.5D' image that possesses a unique level of perceived dimensionality. Darbee then discovered a way to get the same great results by synthesizing stereo information from a single starting image.
