University of Michigan Selects 'Cumulus EDU' Institutional Edition From Renaissance Micro and Canto
ANN ARBOR, Mich., Feb 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The University of Michigan's Photo Services Department will upgrade its Digital Asset Management system to the Canto "Cumulus EDU" Institutional Edition, with integration and customization by Canto Certified Partner, Renaissance Micro.
Renaissance Micro founder and president, Dwain Leonard, made the announcement today, saying the upgrade will be fully implemented by late March.
The Photo Services Department first began using Cumulus in 2004. In the year following the installation, the department saw a 64% increase in archive and stock sales with a corresponding increase in staff productivity.
Before the installation of Cumulus, the department manually indexed and managed 2,000 images they made available to buyers. The number of images in the online archive has today grown exponentially to more than 68,000 digital photographs and contact sheets.
Department Manager, Kim Haskins decided to update the system to increase processing speed and save more staff time.
Real-time credit card processing that meets current payment card industry compliance requirements will be among the system enhancements provided by Renaissance Micro. The Cumulus EDU system will also be integrated with the department's FileMaker Pro-based work order system to streamline efficiency and eliminate redundant data entry.

The academic priced "Cumulus EDU" Institutional Edition provides all of the features found in the commercially available Cumulus Enterprise version, including increased catalog capacity and group/role based permissions. Combined with the customized modules for e-commerce, single sign-on authentication, and integration services from Renaissance Micro, the planned upgrade will allow the photo services department to continue efficiently servicing the digital image, print, and archival needs of the University's faculty, staff, alumni, parents and students.
