Reader's Digest Ranks 135 American Colleges for Safety Preparedness Nearly One Year After Virginia Tech
Almost a year after the Virginia Tech shooting, American colleges have made great strides in securing their campuses and protecting their students. However, as Reader's Digest discovered when it conducted a survey of 135 colleges and universities, much remains to be done. The March issue of Reader's Digest, which goes on sale on newsstands on February 19, features a special report on safety preparedness at colleges called "Safe at School?," which appears in conjunction with the survey results. The report examines the numerous safety threats faced by college students today and describes some of the best safety practices employed by certain schools. TGI ... Tuesday?: Second Day of the Week Remains Most Productive, Survey Shows
Why tackle today what can be put off until Tuesday? In a new survey, 57 percent of executives said Tuesday is the most productive day of the week for employees. Monday was the second most popular answer, although it appears to be losing favor: Only 12 percent of respondents ranked Monday as most productive, compared to 26 percent in a 2002 survey. The national poll included responses from 150 senior executives.

A recent workforce study indicates that the nation's eight colleges of podiatric medicine would have to triple their graduates between now and 2014 in order to meet growing population demands. The study, conducted by the Center for Health Workforce Studies at the School of Public Health, University at Albany, attributes an increase in foot problems as a result of growing obesity, diabetes and aging rates to have a direct impact on the profession.
