U.S. Census Bureau Daily Feature for Jan. 31

WASHINGTON, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Following is the daily "Profile America" feature from the U.S. Census Bureau:

THURSDAY, JANUARY 31: ZANE GREY

Profile America -- Thursday, January 31st. One of the most successful authors about the American west was born in Ohio on this date in 1872 --- Zane Grey. He played some professional baseball and became a dentist, but a trip to the West changed his life. Concentrating on writing, he wrote more than 60 books, mostly about an idealized old west. His most popular novel was "Riders of the Purple Sage," and more than 100 movies were made from his stories. When not writing, Zane Grey went fishing, up to 300 days a year. He held many deep sea fishing records, especially in the waters off New Zealand and Australia. Today in the U.S., fishing is enjoyed by more than 34 million people each year. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau on the Web at http://www.census.gov/.
