Motorola Showcases Ultimate Video Experience at IBC 2007

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- IBC 2007 -- Motorola, Inc. (NYSE:MOT) today unveiled the ultimate video experience at IBC 2007. The live demonstrations are based on Motorola's breadth of gateways, set-top boxes and video solutions, showing experiences such as Follow Me TV(TM) (where content can be moved across multiple set-tops in the home) and on-demand services such as Time-Shifted TV (providing flexibility to pause, restart, fast forward and rewind the TV program).

Speaking at the convention, Joe Cozzolino, corporate vice president & general manager, Home & Networks Mobility EMEA, said: "European consumers recognize that the internet can deliver a video experience. Almost 50 percent of broadband users now watch content online(1) and viewers are embracing the ability to personalize how they view TV and video. On-demand is now becoming common place in homes across the EMEA regions."

Key demonstrations from the Motorola end-to-end video ecosystem include live IPTV, video on demand and high definition services enabled by Motorola's high definition MPEG-4 AVC encoding technology.

Visitors to the Motorola stand (#1.431) will experience the new KPN 'Interactieve TV' service live. With approximately 50 TV channels and 75 radio channels, as well as interactive services, KPN's service is enabled by Motorola's IP set-top solution.

Enabling service providers to deliver video 'any way they want', Motorola will showcase next-generation video services in fixed and mobile environments with DVB-H, DSL, Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON), cable and hybrid solutions. For example, cable operators looking to deliver bandwidth intensive services such as IPTV can view the new Motorola SURFboard SB6101E cable modem, which incorporates key elements of the DOCSIS(R) 3.0 standard, demonstrating data rates of more than 130 Mbps.

With multiple IPTV platforms on display (examples from both Microsoft(R) and Motorola KreatTV(TM)) in addition to the latest hybrid set-top boxes for DVB-T/IP and DVB-C/IP, Motorola demonstrates choices and options for every type of service provider.

"A series of acquisitions in the past 12 months, including Broadbus, Leapstone Systems, Modulus Video, Netopia, Terayon Systems and Tut Systems has strengthened Motorola's position as a leader in the video market," continued Joe Cozzolino. "We offer an end-to-end solution for the service provider or aggregator wanting to deliver a range of video content and services into the home via home set-tops, modem and mobile."
