Digital 10 Network, Michigan Department of Transportation and Travel Michigan Unveil Completion of the Explore Channel
FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich., Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Farmington Hills-based Digital 10 Network has completed the installation of the Explore Channel, a digital media channel offering educational and informative programming in the Michigan Welcome Centers, at all 13 locations throughout the state. Dan Glisky, Co-CEO of Digital 10 Network, made the announcement.
Digital 10 Network, State Transportation Director Kirk T. Steudle and George Zimmermann, vice president, Travel Michigan, Michigan Economic Development Corporation, unveiled the completion of the Explore Channel today at a media event inside the Monroe Welcome Center. The event demonstrated the current statewide digital media network, addressed advertising and informative opportunities as well as the benefits to the state's transportation and tourism industries.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and Travel Michigan have partnered with Digital 10 Network to present the Explore Channel, which provides engaging, full-motion video messages and regional advertising with stereo sound, to travelers visiting any of the Welcome Centers. The Centers are located statewide to serve travelers from Michigan, as well as the surrounding states.
"We are grateful for our partnership with MDOT and Travel Michigan and for their foresight in using new technology to help boost tourism and increase traveler safety in Michigan," Glisky explained. "Michigan is the first state in the country to utilize statewide digital media networks of this magnitude. The Explore Channel will reach approximately 10-million viewers and is at no cost to the state or the taxpayers."
The Explore Channel presents a rare opportunity for Michigan business and organizations of all sizes to get their messages to the traveling public. It will also provide visitors with helpful background on Michigan destinations, as well as highway and safety information.
"Our partnership with Digital 10 Network and Travel Michigan provides MDOT with yet another opportunity to communicate important safety messages in a way that literally brings them to life," continued Steudle. "Working with the Explore Channel, we are able to bring safety messages directly to the motoring public. MDOT is also working with other state agencies, such as the Office of Highway Safety Planning and with statewide coalitions, to produce additional important safety messages for the Explore Channel."
The MDOT and Digital 10 Network contract is a successful collaboration between business and government and will offer a boost of creativity and technology to the ongoing effort of increasing tourism in Michigan. The Explore Channel will present travelers with entertaining and informative programs and enable businesses to reach tourists in a travel-specific environment.
"As big as the tourism business is in Michigan, it's also very competitive," stated Zimmermann. "We have neighboring states like Illinois and Pennsylvania which consistently spend much more on tourism promotion than we do. That means that we need to innovate to be competitive. We believe the Michigan tourism industry will quickly see the value in advertising on this sophisticated system. It is the perfect vehicle for getting visual images and information in front a large audience of travelers."
The Explore Channel encompasses 13 Welcome Centers with a reach of approximately 10-million travelers annually. Michigan's Welcome Centers are located in Clare, Coldwater, Dundee, Iron Mountain, Ironwood, Mackinaw City, Marquette, Menominee, Monroe, New Buffalo, Port Huron, St. Ignace and Sault Ste. Marie.
