Gas Station TV Selects Hughes to 'Fuel' Video at the Pump

Gas Station TV Selects Hughes to 'Fuel' Video at the Pump

HughesNet Enables GSTV to Deliver Customized Content to Consumers at the Pump

GERMANTOWN, Md., Aug. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES) today announced that Gas Station TV (GSTV) has selected Hughes as their digital signage satellite network provider to deliver entertainment, news, local weather, and advertising to customers as they fuel-up at the pump. GSTV is the only digital television network entertaining motorists with content from major media outlets such as ESPN and ABC, as well as local content such as weather updates, in-store and seasonal promotions, and third-party advertising. The nationwide network is designed to engage customers using 20-inch, high-brighted LCD screens at the pump, driving increased return on investment for advertisers and increased sales for gas station retailers.

According to a study conducted by Nielsen Media Research(1), 84 percent of respondents agreed that GSTV is a good source of product information, illustrating the added value that GSTV provides gas retailers in driving customers back into their convenience stores to take advantage of product offers and sales, and third-party advertisers to drive engagement for their offerings.

Hughes will manage the broadband satellite network, including remote installation and maintenance and GSTV will manage the content, media players, screens, and speakers. Content broadcasting is delivered over Hughes' cost-effective, highly customizable HughesNet(R) broadband satellite service. Whereas traditional landline solutions such as DSL and cable can take weeks to be deployed at a particular location, Hughes' satellite technology enables the digital signage solution to be up and running quickly. And unlike landline technologies, satellite's inherent broadcast capability makes broadcasting rich media content to thousands of locations at once very cost effective and easy to manage.

"GSTV's engaging and informative programming delivered with the technical expertise, reliability and speed of Hughes technology creates the most attractive offering to gas station retailers and advertisers alike," said David Leider, GSTV CEO. "With the help of Hughes, GSTV provides both gas station retailers and advertisers with the entertainment medium they are seeking to reach their target audiences." GSTV currently operates in major markets such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Philadelphia, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, and Tampa, and is expanding to San Francisco, Boston, Washington, DC, and Detroit by the end of the year.

"We are very excited to be providing our HughesNet Digital Signage solution to GSTV, clearly a leader in this new and exciting market," said Mike Cook, senior vice president of North America at Hughes. "Hughes gives GSTV the power to deliver their high-quality video content nationwide, seamlessly and cost-effectively. Based upon this and other HughesNet digital signage deployments, Hughes is confident GSTV's gas station retailers will see a positive impact on their bottom line."
