Country Singer Chely Wright to Entertain Troops on USO Tour to Turkey, Italy

ARLINGTON, Va., July 17 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Country music singer Chely Wright will perform for troops in Turkey and Italy as part of a USO entertainment tour July 23-27. This is her fifth USO tour, having performed for troops in Kuwait, Iraq, Qatar, Japan, Korea, Germany and Afghanistan.

Wright's dedication to the U.S. military began at an early age, performing at veterans' hospitals and military memorial ceremonies. She was among the entertainers on the first USO tour to Baghdad in 2003, and her support of the USO has continued throughout the years. Most recently, Wright performed for troops in Gulfport, Miss. in honor of "Seabee Days," a celebration highlighting the mission and accomplishments of the men and women of the Naval Construction Force, affectionately known as the Seabees.

"USO tours have given me the opportunity to personally thank thousands of troops for their service and sacrifice," stated Wright. "And as long as they are there; as long as there are boots on the ground and boots in the air, I will continue to go back."

Hits such as "Single white Female" and "Shut Up and Drive" helped put Wright on the map. Her number one single, "The Bumper of My S.U.V.," from her sixth album, The Metropolitan Hotel, spent nine weeks on Billboard's Country Singles Sales Chart, and continues to touch the hearts of service members and their families worldwide. She has received numerous awards for her musical and philanthropic achievements, including the Academy of Country Music's award for Best New Female Artist in 1995 and was named the American Legion Auxiliary's "Woman of the Year" in 2002.
