Upcoming Michael Moore Film 'Sicko' Spotlights American Healthcare System
Attorney featured in film strikes at the heart of America's 'sick' health insurance industry
PASADENA, Calif., June 21 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In 2002 and 2003, Maria's HMO denied access to specialists and diagnostic tests that would have revealed her brain tumor. As a result, she suffered permanent damage to her optic nerve and attorney Scott Glovsky sued her HMO on her behalf. Now this case appears in Michael Moore's new movie on the American healthcare system, "Sicko," scheduled to be released June 29.
According to Glovsky, Maria's case reflects systemic problems faced by thousands of Americans everyday in getting their health insurance companies to authorize proper care.
"Unfortunately, health insurance companies continue to place profits over people and deny medically necessary care for corporate greed," says Glovsky. "The health insurance companies have structured their businesses to deny and delay patient care. In some cases, they are killing people, and the government continues to allow this to occur."
Glovsky represents many such healthcare victims. In addition to "Sicko," Glovsky's cases have been profiled on CNN's Anderson Cooper 360 and Paula Zahn Now, NBC News, CBS News, ABC News, various other television and radio programs and newspaper articles. His successes include winning several seven- and eight-figure settlements for his clients, in addition to helping them obtain the care they need.
Michael Moore's movie no doubt will energize the debate about healthcare in America. Glovsky knows many cases like Maria's -- all examples of this endemic problem in American society. He is available for media interviews as a resource to help with coverage of healthcare litigation and policy issues and can provide "how to" tips to help consumers get the medical treatment they need from their insurance companies.
