Premieres on KQED 9 and KQED.org on Friday, June 29 at 8:30 pm
Available in Second Audio Programming (SAP) in Spanish
SAN FRANCISCO, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Immigration Calculations, an original KQED documentary examining the economic impact of immigration in the San Francisco Bay Area premieres on Friday, June 29 at 8:30 pm on KQED Public Television 9. The 30-minute documentary explores several common misconceptions about immigrants in the labor market and explains how a few Bay Area economists calculate the costs and benefits of immigration to our economy.
Immigration Calculations follows four immigrants at different levels of the socio-economic ladder: Guadalupe Chavez, a small business owner in Union City, originally from Mexico; Arun Antonio and Rupa Kalidoss, H-1B visa holders and software engineers from India who reside in San Francisco; and Aklilu Asefaw Kidane, a chemist from Eritrea who recently landed his first job at a biotech start-up in the South Bay.
Their personal situations are analyzed by economic experts including Arturo Gonzalez, Ph.D., research fellow at the Public Policy Institute of California; Rebekah Kane, the Job Seekers Program coordinator at Upwardly Global; Stephen Levy, director and senior economist of the Center for Continuing Study of the California Economy (CCSCE) in Palo Alto; Ben Powell, Ph.D, director of the Center on Entrepreneurial Innovation at the Independent Institute; Sylvia Rosales-Fike, president and chief executive officer of AnewAmerica Community Corporation; and AnnaLee Saxenian, Ph.D., dean and professor in the School of Information at UC Berkeley.
Narrated by veteran NPR correspondent Richard Gonzales and co-produced by Jennifer Maytorena Taylor and Sheraz Sadiq, Immigration Calculations is available in second audio programming (SAP) in Spanish. Viewers with stereo-equipped TVs can access the Spanish audio by pushing the SAP or Multiple TV Sound buttons on their sets or remote controls.
"We're thrilled to make the second audio programming on Immigration Calculations available in Spanish," said Michael Isip, vice president, television content and Education Network. "Finding opportunities to provide content and services in other languages is something we hope to expand upon as we carry on our work to engage and serve all communities in the Bay Area."
The film will also be available for viewing at http://www.kqed.org/immigrationinfocus.
