CD, DVD, and Game Trading Site Reports 500 Percent Growth in 30 Days
LOS GATOS, Calif., June 13 /PRNewswire/ -- BarterBee.com, the largest online site for trading CDs, DVDs and video games, has seen the number of trades increase by 500 percent since eliminating its $1 transaction fee one month ago.
"The response to our new 'free trade' model has been overwhelming," said Robert Alvin, President of BarterBee.com. "Since eliminating the $1 transaction fee, titles are turning over at a feverish pace ... what a difference a buck makes."
Founded in 2005, BarterBee.com was the first site to allow trading of CDs, DVDs and video games across categories (i.e. get rid of a DVD to get a CD or game). Members join for free and receive a free CD, DVD or video game of their choice, just for trying out the site. Members list items for a point value without any fees or commission. The site automatically creates the listing that includes free photos, content and reviews. When another member acquires the item, the points are given to the listing member. Those points can be used to get new items on the site, again without any transaction fees.
BarterBee.com reports over 40,000 members and that there are thousands of titles available at any given time on the site. In addition to prior revenues generated by members purchasing optional insured media mailers, BarterBee.com has added advertising based revenue.
"The dramatic growth we're experiencing since eliminating the transaction fee has definitely validated that consumers want a free way to trade on the web. 'Web Free.0' is definitely the way to go," said Alvin.
BarterBee.com is a privately held company headquartered in Los Gatos, California. It is a fully owned subsidiary of NetLine Corporation, a leading internet marketing company serving clients like Oracle, Palm, Juniper Networks, Autodesk and Verisign since its inception in 1994.
