HotdocsTV Takes on TiVo

DALLAS, May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Will Nissan's next advertising campaign actually be a television series starring Carmen Electra called Xterra Sunset?

Will Apple make a TV mockumentary about a PowerBook saving the world? (If not, they probably should.)

With TiVo and DVRs dramatically altering the television advertising landscape, more and more companies are going beyond product placement, building content around the product itself.

HotdocsTV, a new, regional television series on elective cosmetic surgery, does exactly that. The show is built around the doctors themselves, keeping tabs on their practices and patients throughout the season.

One of the stars of HotdocsTV, Dr. Emily McLaughlin, a 38-year-old board- certified plastic surgeon practicing in Ft. Worth, says, "The advertising stigma has virtually disappeared the last few years. Smart practices are now marketing themselves. I mean, referrals are wonderful, a great compliment ... but we want more people to know who we are. Television does this for us."

Dr. Andy Chang, a featured cosmetic dentist, adds, "The marketplace is strong. But crowded. Having a weekly television presence gets people comfortable with the procedures and us. Ultimately, practicing any type of medicine comes down to the patient-doctor relationship. The show simply fosters new relationships."

HotdocsTV, launching from Dallas, features nationally acclaimed doctors from the area including Dr. Raul Rodriguez, Dr. John Tebbetts, Dr. Lori Stetler, Dr. Andy Chang, Dr. Jay Burns and Dr. Emily McLaughlin, as well as group practices LapBand Solutions and Kleiman-Evangelista Eye Center.

HotdocsTV is next slated for production in Houston followed by runs in Los Angeles and Miami in 2008.

Premiering May 27th, HotdocsTV airs Sunday mornings on NBC KXAS from 11:00 to 11:30 AM.
