GolTV Makes the Case for Home Team Advantage
When it Comes to Soccer - or Reaching that Desired Niche GolTV Has the Advantage
NEW YORK, May 16 /PRNewswire/ -- GolTV Upfronts -- To a room filled with close to 200 advertisers and media, the 2007 GolTV Upfront got off to a great start.
In fact, this year GolTV put on quite a show. The event held at the Stone Rose Lounge in New York City, was thematic for a very good reason. Tying in the theme of Home Team as it relates to the Network's competitive advantage was utilized cleverly as a way to deliver a message to advertisers - GolTV is not only the home for soccer but they have the competitive advantage. The case was later laid out in numbers by Rodrigo Lombello the Network's COO.
In the words of the event's emcee, "The home team has the advantage. They know the playing field better than any other. The home team is always the one you root for."
And boy did GolTV have someone special on hand to root for them on this their third and most highly attended Upfront. Cheering them on was none other than the King of Soccer himself, Pele, a man easily considered the best player of all time. Pele thanked GolTV for being pioneers, visionaries and for giving soccer a home in the US.
"Four years ago, before GOLTV, soccer was hard to come by on television. Soccer coverage was limited. A fan couldn't just sit at home and watch soccer all day. Now, GolTV allows U.S. soccer fans to do what they couldn't do before, watch soccer when and how it's convenient for them. This network is the home for the best teams, the fans and soccer as a sport," said the King.
Speaking of great soccer programming, Pele followed his tribute to GolTV by calling his good friend and Network CEO Enzo Francescoli up on the podium for a joint announcement regarding another programming coup for the network. Beginning June 26th and running through July, 16th of this year, GOLTV will be the place to catch action of the Copa America.
This will be the first time ever that U.S. fans and English dominant Hispanics will be able to watch the oldest world tournaments in its entirety live in English.
Pele and Francescoli's announcement of the Copa America rights (see separate release) was just one of many made at this year's Upfront, which also included the unveiling of the new look and feel for the Network (video available and separate release with full details), that incorporates new on air graphics, accelerated program pacing, a colorful video presentation of the Network's key programming offerings, and an announcement of a new advertiser opportunity, immersive sporting experiences via "Four Gigabytes." 4G is a hybrid of broadcast programming and online interactivity that features notable sports and music personalities (see separate release).
The 30 minute presentation and theme was further enhanced by strong numbers, making the case and illustrating why GolTV is indeed the home for soccer in the U.S. and why it offers an advantages to advertisers. Some brief highlights include:
GolTV in General
-- GolTV is currently in 11 million HH plus becoming the fastest growing
independent network in the U.S.
-- GolTV viewers are certainly DEDICATED to the network. In fact, 50% of
our weekly audience watches GOLTV seven plus hours per week. 67% watch
GOLTV five plus hours per week.
Not surprisingly, in the past few years, GolTV has been able to secure distribution partnerships with the vast majority of major US carriers including Cablevision, Charter, Comcast, Qwest, Cox Communications, AT&T, Verizon, DirecTV, Dish, and Time Warner. The advertising revenue has also increase by 50% percent from Upfront 06 to 07.
"We at GolTV pride ourselves in the ability to effectively target and reach the U.S. Hispanic market, albeit all soccer fans in the US. In fact, since GOLTV's launch in 2003, 80% more people 18+ watch soccer on TV than previously in the U.S. There's probably no coincidence in this increase," said Mr. Lombello.
