BACKGROUND:
Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease that affects 30,000 adults and
children in the United States. It causes life-threatening lung infections
and serious digestive complications. More than 10 million Americans are
symptomless carriers of the CF gene. Young people are lost every day to
this disease.
Launched in 2006, CureFinders is a school fund-raising program for grades
K-12. More than 300 schools are participating nationwide. A total of
$670,000 has been raised-each dollar critical to funding lifesaving CF
research. As part of CureFinders, students collect spare change and
classes compete to raise the most money at their school. The top fund-
raising school in the country wins a visit from the CureFinders National
Honorary Chair Mackenzie Rosman.
