RADIO FREE MOSKOW Ignites New Passion for College Radio
LOS ANGELES, April 25 /PRNewswire/ -- National college radio embarks on a new era of entertainment with RADIO FREE MOSKOW -- the number-one-rated broadcast at UCLAradio.com. The brainchild of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) student Michael Moskowitz, RADIO FREE MOSKOW amuses with alternative entertainment that some have referred to as the offspring of a college version of "The Howard Stern Show" and "MTV Unplugged." The show features a multifaceted smorgasbord of content with edgy radio bits, engaging on-air games and ground-breaking musical guests as well as hilarious personalities.
RADIO FREE MOSKOW has stormed the world of college radio. In its first few months of existence it has already become the destination show of UCLA radio and is now focused on broadening its listener base to a national level. Moskowitz and his radio crew are working to change the face of the industry. "College radio is littered with the over-modulated young voices of pretentious DJs sleepily spinning their indie favorites," says Moskowitz. "It's now time for a fresh wave of talent and content that both interests and captivates people." Moskowitz, who was raised on "Mystery Science Theater," "Howard Stern," "Strangers With Candy" and most other forms of alternative comedy, was eager to return college media to the forefront of pop culture.
The RADIO FREE MOSKOW crew are all freshmen at UCLA and come from a variety of backgrounds. Their unique personalities mesh together like a family. Moskowitz, who is a Neuroscience major, lead on-air personality and writer/producer of the show, grew up in Washington, D.C. before moving to Des Moines, Iowa. Moskowitz has since become one of the managers of the station, additionally establishing and managing the first UCLA radio daily podcast. Tiffany Yen is the female sidekick, providing alternative viewpoints and breaking up the testosterone on the show. Danny Wudka runs music, sound effects and the "behind the scenes" aspects of RADIO FREE MOSKOW. Daniel Stein, who is also behind the scenes, normally falls into the crosshairs of the constant barrage of jokes and "ball-busting" shot from one end of the studio to the other.
Not knowing what's coming next is what keeps RADIO FREE MOSKOW listeners "tuned in." On a recent episode Moskowitz surprised crew and on-air guests with models that stripped down to bikinis then pranced about the studio creating hysterical and sometimes awkward moments. "I found out about the show from my dorm mate and quickly became hooked," says UCLA sophomore David Moreno.
On-air guests have included a diverse group ranging from Los Angeles Sports personality Vic "the Brick" Jacobs to Brooklyn hip-hop artist Pete Miser to "Saturday Night Live" contributing comedian Ben Schwartz to Los Angeles Dodgers legendary baseball hero Sweet Lou Johnson, as well as countless others.
Future plans for RADIO FREE MOSKOW include improving live video streams of the show, as well as incorporating more prizes, entertainment groups and prestigious guests, while continually increasing the scope of the program by pushing the borders of college radio. "Being number one in college radio nationally and number one in downloads from iTunes are our primary goals -- or getting 'Mystery Science Theater 300' creator Joel Hodgson to appear on the show, whichever comes first." Adding more seriously, "We already feel a huge demand pushing us toward our goals and are enjoying every aspect of the challenge," says Moskowitz.
RADIO FREE MOSKOW airs every Sunday night from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. It can be accessed at radiofreemoskow.com or by going to UCLAradio.com and clicking on "listen now." All RADIO FREE MOSKOW broadcasts are posted and available for free from iTunes.
