Turns out, the two doyennes had much in common. Sitting down with Hart on the eve of one of her nightclub performances in New York City, Roberts, 85, and herself an actress for most of her life, discovered that both had mothers who from early childhood encouraged exposure to the arts; both grew up with a commitment to philanthropy, and both were outspoken and honest to a fault. According to Roberts, Hart was funny, feisty and charming. "And I was impressed by her poise, how secure she was," she said.

Roberts is no stranger to celebrity interviews, having done sit-downs with notables ranging from late designer Pauline Trigere to Ernie and Tova Borgnine, Elaine Stritch, sports legend Billie Jean King and many more. Recognizing the dearth of quality television programming for the over 50 audience, she created Seeking Solutions in 2000 - and a brand new career for herself at the age of 80.
