NBC's 'Saturday Night Live' to Present Special Episode: The Best of 2006-07 May 5
NBC, 'SNL' and AT&T Partner in Unique Interactive Venture to Let Viewers Pick Their Favorite 'SNL Digital Short' for Broadcast
First-Time-Ever Event Allows AT&T's Wireless Subscribers to Text Their Votes Through April 30
NEW YORK, April 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- "SNL" presents its "Best of 2006/07" special episode, featuring the memorable moments of the past season on May 5 (11:30pm - 1:00 am, ET).
Additionally, in an unprecedented partnership, NBC, Broadway Video and AT&T (NASDAQ:T) are allowing fans -- for the first time ever -- to vote for the season's best "SNL Digital Short" and be entered in a sweepstakes to earn a trip to New York to see the late-night series' Season Finale on May 19. "We are excited to now allow our wireless customers to impact the show by voting for their favorite moments via their wireless handset," said John Burbank, vice president of marketing, AT&T's wireless unit. "Bringing an interactive element to one of the legendary comedic brands like 'Saturday Night Live' allows our customers to feel like they are making history. Plus, they earn the chance to attend the season finale with each vote."
The special will feature some of the most talked-about sketches from the show's current cast including: Rep. Nancy Pelosi's (Kristen Wiig) address to the nation, host Jake Gyllenhaal's "Dreamgirls" drag monologue, SuperBowl MVP Peyton Manning being coached by a dancing Will Forte. Hosts like Alec Baldwin and Dane Cook, as well as highlights from the new "Weekend Update" team of Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers will also be featured.
One of the most notable recent developments for the show is the inclusion of "SNL Digital Shorts" to the comedy institution's satirical repertoire. Written, shot and edited fresh each week, sometimes just before the live broadcast, the "SNL Digital Shorts" have captured the attention of "SNL" viewers, the press and are some of the most-watched videos on the internet.
Through an exclusive partnership between NBC, Broadway Video and AT&T, AT&T subscribers can now watch the "SNL Digital Shorts" in their entirety (requires a 3G device), and conveniently text their votes for "Favorite Digital Short" to be included in the special (available to all subscribers). Eligible Digital Shorts include "Body Fuzion," (starring Drew Barrymore), "D*** in a Box," (with Justin Timberlake), "Laser Cats 2," "Peyton Manning for The United Way" and "Sloths."
Voting ends on April 30. To vote, AT&T subscribers 18 and over can text right now to 765 (SNL) from their 2G or 3G wireless handset and enter:
-- A for "Body Fuzion"
-- B for "D*** in a Box"
-- C for "Laser Cats 2"
-- D for "Peyton Manning for The United Way" or
-- E for "Sloths"
Besides being able to watch the shorts on their AT&T handset, viewers can also view the shorts online at SaturdayNightLive.com.
Viewers who text will automatically be entered in the sweepstakes for a trip to New York and tickets to the "Saturday Night Live" season finale on May 19th. Votes can also be entered, and complete rules are available, on SaturdayNightLive.com.
