LIPA, Islanders Announce 'I am an ENERGY STAR(R)' Winners

LIPA, Islanders Announce 'I am an ENERGY STAR(R)' Winners

UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 20 /PRNewswire/ -- The Long Island Power Authority (LIPA) and the New York Islanders have selected the winners of the "I am an ENERGY STAR(R)" song contest: Corinne Castoldi of Miller Place, NY in the five to eight age category, Vincent Lopez of West Hempstead, NY in the 10 to 13 category and Marissa Larsen of Valley Stream, NY in the 14 to 18 category.

The winners will appear in LIPA's new "I am an ENERGY STAR" commercial and receive a free ENERGY STAR qualified laptop computer. Winners will also have the chance to sing the National Anthem at the Nassau Coliseum during the 2007- 2008 Islanders season.

"Kids really make a difference when it comes to energy efficiency," said Richard M. Kessel, chief executive officer and president of LIPA. "Not only do they represent the future, many kids are taking action right now to become more efficient. We launched this contest as part of our efforts to bring energy efficiency into the mainstream in ways that make taking action both fun and a point of pride."

As part of a unique partnership that educates youngsters and families about energy efficiency and conservation, LIPA and the Islanders hosted several auditions for the contest at schools and malls earlier this year. More than 600 kids representing cities and towns across Long Island participated by singing their version of the "I am an ENERGY STAR" song and offering their ideas on how to save energy and help protect the environment on Long Island.

"The Islanders are proud to join LIPA in this opportunity to promote energy efficiency to Long Island's future generations. For us, this contest is one more way that our team can reach out to our younger fans and their families," said Mike Milbury, senior vice president of sports properties for the New York Islanders.
