Speaker Pelosi on Stem Cell Research: 'I Have Not Given Up on The President'
In exclusive dLifeTV interview, Speaker rallies Americans to keep the pressure on
WESTPORT, Conn., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- In a rare, exclusive interview, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told dLife founder Howard Steinberg that Americans who support the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (H.R.3) need to, "continue to create a drumbeat across America ... even if their member in Congress is okay on this issue ... until the policy is changed."
Pelosi addressed the role of stem cell research in diabetes and also all chronic diseases, with Steinberg, who has type 1 diabetes. The interview is available for immediate viewing at www.dLife.com/pelosi and will be shown on a future episode of dLifeTV on CNBC (Sundays at 7:00pm ET). dLife is the only diabetes media and education network.
The Speaker stressed that, "it is not a partisan issue: Republicans and Democrats support embryonic stem cell research, just the President of the United States has not gotten to that place yet." But, she says, she, "has not given up on the President yet."
Steinberg says the one-on-one discussion focused on, "the chronic diseases that have the real potential for a cure. Everyone with diabetes and many other diseases has one dream in common -- a cure. Pelosi was gracious, open, and honest, relaying her feelings about the President on this issue and explaining what the public not only should do but must do to influence the decision process."
Pelosi strongly encouraged Americans to write the President with their own stories and explain how the passage of the bill will impact their families profoundly, emphasizing that this research is an important source of hope. dLife has made this easy for viewers: By simply going to www.dLife.com/pelosi, they can type a personal letter to the President with their viewpoints on stem cell research, and dLife will compile the emails and hand-deliver them to Washington.
dLife producers also contacted the White House for comments on the Stem Cell Research Enhancement Act (H.R. 3). It was dLife's goal to present both sides of the stem cell issue from the highest ranking officials in the country. The producers were referred to the United States Department of Health and Human Service (HHS). Regrettably, the HHS declined to comment on the issue.
