EAST WINDSOR, N.J., Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- William J. (Bill) Kettleson, regional vice president of government and community affairs for Comcast Cable in New Jersey, was appointed by Governor Jon S. Corzine to the prestigious Governor's Advisory Council on Volunteerism and Community Service. The Council is dedicated to collaboration with other concerned citizens in working for the common good of the state of New Jersey.
Kettleson is a native of New Jersey who currently resides in Washington Township, NJ with his wife and their four children. A veteran of the cable industry, Kettleson has been with Comcast since 2000 and before that, held numerous government and community relations positions with Jones Intercable and Suburban Cable. Prior to joining the cable industry, Kettleson worked at Intercounty Newspapers, publishers of local community newspapers.
Since joining Comcast, Kettleson has helped enhance and expand its community service and volunteer-based initiatives throughout the state. Comcast's New Jersey Region contributes more than $2 million annually through hundreds of local partnerships, grants and free wiring of more than 2,000 schools and libraries in New Jersey. In 2006, more than 800 Comcast New Jersey employees and their friends and family members donated more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service through 18 projects throughout the state as part of its annual Comcast Cares Day volunteer service initiative. Comcast Cable employs more than 4,650 people in New Jersey, and in early 2007 announced that it will hire an additional 750 employees in 2007.
Kettleson has a long history of volunteerism and community service throughout New Jersey, exemplified through his dedication to local organizations, partnerships and Board involvement. Kettleson currently serves on the Board of Appel Farms Arts and Music Center, and on the Delaware Valley Divisional Board of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Over the years Kettleson has served as president of his local Rotary Club; president of the Washington Township Chamber of Commerce; as communications director for the Washington Township Advisory Board on Economic Development; as a Board member for the Gloucester County Workforce Investment Board; and as president of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America's Southern New Jersey/Shore Region chapter. He is also a dedicated volunteer who spent 27 years coaching community youth soccer leagues. Kettleson is active in professional and trade organizations, including the New Jersey Cable Telecommunications Association, where he served as Chairman for three years; and the Cable Television Public Affairs Association (CTPAA).
Kettleson has been recognized with numerous honors from local, state and national government and trade organizations. He received three separate awards from the New Jersey Legislature for his leadership in community service and for his department's continual and commendable efforts in government and community affairs. In 2000, Kettleson was named "Business Leader of the Year" by the Sam Walton Foundation and the Washington Township Chamber of Commerce, and in 2001, he received the "Service to Mankind" award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. He is also a three-time recipient of CTPAA's prestigious "Beacon Award" for excellence in public and governmental affairs.
Kettleson received his bachelor of arts degree and translator's certification from Rutgers University and studied abroad at the Universitat Konstanz in Germany.
