Reynolds Succeeds Alvord as DNA's Circulation Leader

DENVER, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Veteran Denver newspaper executive Bill Reynolds, 47, has been named senior vice president for circulation for the Denver Newspaper Agency, succeeding Judd Alvord.

Alvord, 51, is leaving a 29-year career in newspaper circulation to pursue consulting opportunities within the industry. Alvord, former circulation vice president for The Denver Post, was responsible for combining delivery operations of The Post and rival Rocky Mountain News when a joint operating agreement was formed in 2001.

Reynolds, former circulation director for the News, has been circulation vice president for the Agency and Alvord's deputy in maintaining the two newspapers as industry leaders in circulation and household penetration.

Until recently, Reynolds also served as general manager of YourHub.com, a collection of neighborhood websites and zoned print sections published by the News and distributed through both newspapers.

A native of Long Island, N.Y., Reynolds held numerous management positions with the New York Daily News and Long Island Newsday before coming to Denver in 1994.

Harry Whipple, president and CEO of the Denver Newspaper Agency, praised Reynolds as a seasoned circulation executive "who is the right leader to guide our efforts to expand our total audience."

Reynolds said he was "excited by the challenges posed by the ever-changing environment in our industry and the Denver market, in particular." He said he planned to build on customer service innovations begun under Alvord's tenure.

Whipple described Alvord as "one of the most respected circulation executives in the country" who brought a number of innovations to the DNA's operations. He cited the creation of address specific delivery techniques, changes in customer service infrastructure and aggressive expansion of national publications delivery. The DNA now handles all Colorado delivery for six national newspapers, including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal and USA Today.

Prior to his service at The Denver Post and the DNA, Alvord held management positions with Gannett Westchester Newspapers and the Hartford Courant.
