Media Advisory: Civil War Preservation Trust To Reveal Nation's Most Endangered Battlefields

WASHINGTON, Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) will release an investigative report on the status of the nation's battlefields at a news conference on Tuesday, March 13, 2007. The report, entitled History Under Siege: America's Endangered Civil War Battlefields, will identify the ten most threatened Civil War sites in the country and what is being done to rescue them.

CWPT President James Lighthizer will be joined at the news conference by former Congressmen Charlie Wilson and Bob Mrazek. Wilson is the central character of the best selling book Charlie Wilson's War, soon to be a major motion picture starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts and Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Mrazek is the author of the Civil War novel Stonewall's Gold. While in office, both men supported legislation to preserve Civil War battlefields.

Also participating in the news conference will be Dr. Libby O'Connell, Chief Historian of The History Channel. Dr. O'Connell developed and oversees "Save Our History," The History Channel's campaign to promote historic preservation.

The news conference will be held at 10 a.m. in the Frank Holeman Lounge of the National Press Club. Copies of the report will be available at the event. Refreshments will be served.
