Illinois Education Association Will Air Funding Reform TV Ad This Weekend
SPRINGFIELD, Ill., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Illinois policymakers and voters will be urged to "Invest in Excellence" this weekend when the Illinois Education Association (IEA) campaign for school funding reform airs its first advertisement on TV stations statewide.
The 30-second ad, titled "Someday," will air before, during or after news programs on Saturday, February 10, and Sunday, February 11, on stations blanketing Illinois. In the ad, supporters of public education are urged to "Contact your state senators and representatives and tell them to support school funding reform."
"This weekend presents a unique opportunity to get our message out to policymakers and the public through local and national news programs," said IEA President Ken Swanson.
"The historic announcement from Sen. Barack Obama will generate tremendous interest among activists from all political points of view. We decided to seize the opportunity to deliver our message to policymakers, education activists and the general public by advertising on TV news programs during a period when interest in the news will be very high," Swanson said.
The Invest in Excellence ads will air on stations in the following television markets: Chicago, Rockford, Peoria, Bloomington, Springfield, Decatur, Champaign, St. Louis-Metro East, Paducah and the Quad Cities.
"A great public school is a basic right for every child, but in Illinois, a child's zip code often determines whether the student will have the opportunity to attend a great school. IEA, through our Invest in Excellence campaign, is committed to making that right a reality," Swanson said.
The complete schedule for the "Someday" ad can be viewed at http://www.ieanea.org/. The ad will be viewable at that site beginning Saturday.
The Illinois Education Association, with more than 125,000 members is the state's largest education employees' organization.
