Chicago-Area Teens Tout 'Little Miss Sunshine' as Best Picture in Chicago Tribune's Annual Award

Chicago-Area Teens Tout 'Little Miss Sunshine' as Best Picture in Chicago Tribune's Annual Award

CHICAGO, Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The Oscar might represent one of the highest accolades bestowed by movie insiders in Hollywood, but when it comes to teens in Chicagoland, the top prize is the TAFFY, an annual award given to those chosen by teen readers of the Chicago Tribune.

For the third consecutive year, the newspaper gave teen moviegoers ages 13 to 19 an opportunity to vote and honor their favorites from the world of cinema. Chicago Tribune will publish in its edition tomorrow a list of the highest vote getters, which will include a Best Picture award to "Little Miss Sunshine," a comedy about the quirky Hoover family's drama-filled road trip to a children's beauty pageant.

"Teens in the Chicago area are quite savvy when it comes to entertainment, and it's clear that they have good taste in movies," said Chicago Tribune Movies editor Maureen Hart. "There are so few opportunities for them to voice their movie preferences that it made sense for us to continue our annual award."

The winners for Chicago Tribune's 2007 TAFFY (Teen Awards for Favorite Films of the Year) Awards, which will be published in the Movies section of the newspaper's Friday edition, are:

Best Picture: Little Miss Sunshine
Best Actress: Abigail Breslin (Little Miss Sunshine)
Best Actor: (tie) Leonardo DiCaprio (The Departed) and Johnny
Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest)
Best Hero: Daniel Craig's James Bond (Casino Royale)
Best Villain: Meryl Streep's Miranda Priestly (The Devil Wears
Prada)
Best Special Effects: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest

Polled in January and February, hundreds cast their ballots by mail and e-mail for their picks among the various cinematic offerings of 2006.

Previous TAFFY award recipients include "Napoleon Dynamite" and "Crash" for Best Picture, Reese Witherspoon and Kate Winslet for Best Actress and Batman and Spider-Man for Best Hero.
