Women In Film & Video Hosts Its First Washington Region's Screenwriters' Conference

WASHINGTON, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington politics may make strange bedfellows but it also makes good screenwriting. With so much talent and so many good stories in the region, Women In Film & Video DC (WIFV) is holding its first Washington region Screenwriters' Conference featuring film professionals, business strategists and actors on October 14, 2006 at the Jack Morton Auditorium, George Washington University.

The WIFV Screenwriters' Conference provides attendees with film industry professionals' knowledge in areas of script reviewing, pitching product, working with agents, and producing independently or by studio. It also offers workshops on creative-business skills, and how to profit and protect your work.

"We have so many talented working screenwriters in this area that we needed to have their knowledge shared. It's amazing that it has taken so long to bring this talented group together," said Peg Long, Chair of WIFV Screenwriters' Roundtable.

The full day conference gives participants a chance to meet and network with film and business professionals that know how the film industry works. Panel and workshop speakers on the art, craft, techniques, and business of screenwriting include: Gordy Hoffman, writer/director, and recipient of Sundance Screenwriting Award; Marilyn Horowitz, CEO of ArtMar and screenwriting instructor; Claudia Myers, writer/director and recipient of Nickelodeon Screenwriting award; and Khris Baxter, writer/director and script consultant.

Julianne Hausler, founder of THE NEW YORK OFFICE, a bi-coastal management firm specializing in above and below the line talent for the entertainment industry, Kurt Klaus, entertainment lawyer and Paul Willard, creative business strategist, will offer workshops on the business of screenwriting.

The conference location is sponsored by The Documentary Center at George Washington University. Event sponsors include Kurt Klaus, Esq., http://www.entertainmentesq.com/, the WIFV Screenwriting Roundtable, and Script Magazine.

Price for the full day, including closing reception is $125 for WIFV Members; $195 for Non-members.
