Largest Outside-of-Russia Catalog of Russian Produced Recordings of Classical Music to Be Sold at Live Ocean Tomo Auction
Preeminent Source for Russian Classical Music by Russian Artists; Master Recordings of Approximately 120 Hours
CHICAGO, Oct. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Ocean Tomo Auctions, LLC announced today that CDK Music has consigned to The Ocean Tomo Fall 2006 Live Intellectual Property Auction the largest outside-of-Russia catalog of Russian produced recordings of classical music. This preeminent source for Russian classical music by Russian artists will be placed on the auction block on October 26th at Capitale in New York City.
The CDK Music Catalog is unique for its selection of Russian-composed music performed by renowned Russian artists including Sviatoslav Richter, David Oistrakh, Mstislav Rostropovich, Mikhail Pletnev, Evgeni Svetlanov, Vladimir Fedosejev, Oleg Kagan, Natalia Gutman and Yuri Bashmet. These Russian artists are of the caliber that sets the CDK Music Catalog apart from other classical music catalogs. CDK Music acquired the majority of the recordings from the Russian label Gramzapis before its liquidation.
"With the combination of works by famous composers, such as Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Mozart and Tchaikovsky, being performed by top classical music artists from Russia, the worldwide appeal of this catalog is tremendous," says Dean Becker, Vice Chairman of Ocean Tomo.
The successful bidder at the Fall Auction would receive:
-- Master sound recordings (but not publishing rights) to 97 albums which
amounts to 1,042 tracks on 101 CDs (approx. 120 hours of recordings);
-- 25-year worldwide (excluding Ukraine) exclusive rights to all possible
formats of 2 ready-to-press DVD productions:
1. "Playing with Richter", '65; subtitles in 6 languages; and
2. "Yuri Bashmet", '98; subtitles in English;
-- Prospective proceeds from existing CDK licensee contracts: Allegro
Music (Portland, OR), Regis (UK), Chandos (UK) and Silk Road (HK);
-- Prospective proceeds from existing CDK distribution contracts, if the
buyer will prefer to prolong them;
-- Existing US and UK warehouse stock of approximately 13,580 CDs of
27 issued CDK albums;
-- CDK logo; cdkmusic.com domain name; CDK Music subscription website and
CDK Music free web site; and
-- Exclusive and perpetual intellectual property rights to CDK CD
booklets and artwork for 30 of the 97 albums.
The owner of CDK Music is the Russian composer and pianist, Evgeni Kostitsyn, who has the singular distinction of being named "First Laureate of the First Ukrainian International Competition for Composers" for his First Prize winning composition, which thereafter, under the rules of competition, bears the name "Evgeni Kostitsyn International Competition for Composers." In 1999, the U.S. Government granted Mr. Kostitsyn special visa status for "Persons with Extraordinary Achievements and Abilities" -- a rare immigration category reserved for Nobel Prize winners and internationally renowned artists, whose work-product or outstanding accomplishments are such that their presence in the U.S. is considered to be "in the national interest."
"Compared to any classical music catalog in the world, this catalog is unequalled for the caliber of its artists and the excellence of its performances, many of which are of significant historical value," said Mr. Kostitsyn. "CDK Music features the most prominent Russian names in classical music. For decades they have been artists of all major record labels."
