GVExpo Hosts 'A Day in the Life of ... ' Documentary Concept Competition

Just One of Many Exciting New Offerings at the Industry's Premiere Event

NEW YORK, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Government Video & Technology Expo 2006 (GVExpo), now in its ninth year taking place December 5-7 at the Washington DC Convention Center, has announced a number of new and returning events and pavilions.

"As the premier government video, broadcast, AV, and multimedia event, sponsored by Government Video and Videography magazines, we are very excited to be selected host of 'A Day in the Life of ... ' Documentary Concept Competition. GVExpo attendees will have a unique opportunity to win one of 12 creative consultant contracts in this Documentary Concept Competition sponsored by The Quietly Working Foundation for The Children of Fallen Soldiers. The Quietly Working Foundation for The Children of Fallen Soldiers is a non-political, non-denominational, and non-profit organization that serves all of the kids who have lost a parent in the U.S. Military. Judging will be held onsite and contracts will be awarded to creative consultants for story concepts and ideas that effectively highlight a specific U.S. military base, unit, or soldier in the format of a 60-minute documentary piece creatively humanizing our military heroes," explained Timothy J. Heaslet II Founder & Executive Director of The Quietly Working Foundation for The Children of Fallen Soldiers.

"This competition is a huge opportunity for new or seasoned talent, and we are pleased and honored that Government Video & Technology has been selected to provide the top talent to make these documentaries," commented Linda Cohen, GVExpo Show Director.

There are many new features added to this important government event this year, free to all attendees, including two independent film festivals featuring their winners onsite talking about their videos and techniques. The expanded show floor features more than 300 top-name exhibitors and pavilions such as the Digital Signage Zone, the Collaborative Communications Solutions Center, and Digital Asset Management Pavilion. Keynoters include Brian Natwick, General Manager, The Pentagon Channel, and Steve James, editor, director, writer and producer, nominated for an Academy Award for editing "Hoop Dreams." Mr. James will show clips from the Tribeca Film Festival- winning documentary "The War Tapes," which he co-edited, and discuss the challenges and his approach to editing the footage shot by members of the National Guard during their training and first year serving in a combat unit in Iraq.

Educational offerings have been expanded to include three separate conferences: the Government Video Conference Program, DigitalMediaDC (DMDC), and Digital Asset Management (DAM).
