Dovetail Opens Online Voting for Its 'Off the Shelf and Onto the Screen' Film Competition
Online Destination for DVD/HD-Quality Independent Programming Encourages Artists and Audiences to 'Declare Your Independence'
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- As the election season approaches, one Internet start-up is out to prove that no matter what happens on Election Day, democracy in America still works. Dovetail (www.dovetail.tv), the online destination for independent programming and distribution in high-quality DVD and HD formats, today announced that online voting has begun in Dovetail's "Off the Shelf and Onto the Screen" film competition.
Dovetail audiences, which have flocked to the site since its launch last month, now have the opportunity to vote on more than 60 works by independent film, music and television producers competing for the grand prize of $1,000 and 10,000 shares of stock in Dovetail. Additional winners in five channel categories (Features, Shorts, Documentaries, Music and TV) will each receive $500 in cash. The online voting period is October 16-30, 2006 and the winners will be announced on Election Day, Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at the Red Devil Lounge in San Francisco (TBA).
Audiences are encouraged to help their favorite artist spread the word and increase their votes by using the social-networking capabilities found throughout the Dovetail website. Users can send emails directly to their friends from a preview pane or embed a film preview into their online profile or blog site. Votes are cast by downloading the film, TV show or music video from Dovetail, with each download counting as one vote.
"Independent artists and audiences still struggle to connect with one another and with their audiences despite the successes of the many wonderful music and film festivals that take place nationwide," said Jason Holloway, co-founder and CEO of Dovetail. "As great as they are, the big problem with these events is their limitation in time and geography. Dovetail eliminates this problem by providing an always-open place online where producers can present work that might otherwise languish on the shelf."
