CBS Affiliate Follows myNDMA Patient, Chronicles Mammography Experience
Video, now available online, illustrates criticality of access to historical mammography studies
BERWYN, Pa., Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- In a segment that coincides with National Mammography Day, CBS Affiliate WCBS-TV New York chronicles the digital mammography experience of one patient, from personal health record management to digital mammography reading to digital storage/retrieval. The segment is now available online at http://wcbstv.com/video/?id=92712@wcbs.dayport.com.
The patient, Marta Tracy, is a 51-year-old subscriber to myNDMA.com, a consumer portal designed to provide patients with on-demand access to their personal health information, digital medical images and electronic health records. Tracy uses myNDMA.com, a service of National Digital Medical Archive, Inc. (NDMA), to:
-- Identify a service bureau to digitize her mammography films
-- Store prior mammograms from previous healthcare providers
-- Locate a digital imaging facility in her area
-- Link to healthcare provider records stored in the National Digital
Medical Archive
"I have a history of breast cancer in my family, so I do monthly self-breast exams and have a mammogram once a year," says Tracy. "Using myNDMA, I can record all of my findings and provide my doctors with my records and images. This gives me peace of mind that my complete health history is available to my doctors whenever they need it."
According to Suzanne Smith, Director of Breast Imaging at Columbia University Medical Center, "One of the challenges radiologists face everyday is accessing historical studies for comparison. When a patient provides not only her prior studies, but also the accompanying reports and personal health information, we're able to provide a more complete diagnosis and improve the overall quality of the patient's experience."
NDMA Vice President of Marketing Diane L. Hockstein says, "Payers are wasting millions of dollars every year as a result of lost or unavailable images needed by physicians during patient treatment. NDMA technology resolves the challenges faced by the healthcare industry of retrieving and distributing digital medical images, and serves not only to eliminate waste, but also to improve the quality of healthcare delivery."
Adds Hockstein, "Leveraging NDMA's technology for on-demand access to digital images and data, the myNDMA service enables patients to provide their doctors with their complete medical history at the time of service, and serves as an excellent complement to the many personal health record (PHR) initiatives already underway by Fortune 500s and payers nationwide."
The CBS segment aired on Thursday, October 19, 2006, in New York, and can be viewed online at http://wcbstv.com/video/?id=92712@wcbs.dayport.com.
