WQED Big Winner at the Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards

PITTSBURGH, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- WQED Multimedia proudly took home nine Emmy awards from The Mid-Atlantic Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) -- including a first-ever award for overall Station Excellence that recognizes one station in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware that exhibits the qualities of excellence, service and professionalism.

The 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards were presented at a gala ceremony on September 9 at the Philadelphia Marriott. WQED received the second highest number of awards given that evening and was the biggest winner in western Pennsylvania broadcasting.

A total of 75 awards were presented in 68 categories to honor excellence in news, programming and individual achievement in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Emmy judging is spearheaded by regional chapters of the National Television Academy in comparable television markets across the country. All entries in a given category are judged by television industry peers with expertise in that category, and judges apply personal standards of excellence to evaluate entries in areas of content, creativity and execution. The Mid-Atlantic Chapter represents almost 800 industry professionals working in regional television.

Over 400 industry professionals gathered for festivities which paid tribute to the phenomena of Reality TV, with well-known Reality TV contestants joining popular TV personalities on stage for award ceremonies.
