Wolf Trap, America's Only National Park for the Performing Arts, Exposes Rarely Seen Cultural Heritage and Traditions of HAWAI`I

WASHINGTON, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- Thousands will gather at Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts just outside of Washington, D.C. to explore the diverse cultural traditions of Hawai`i. The world premiere of Face of America: Hawai`i features live performance along with giant-screen HD footage of traditional dance recorded on location at Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park, which is home to both the most massive and the most active volcanoes in the world. Featured performers include Halau O Kekuhi, guardians of the ancient language of hula, Ledward Kaapana, and Keali`i Reichel. Hawaiian Senator Daniel Akaka, who has been raising support for the Native Hawaiian Government Reorganization Act, also known as the Akaka Bill, that proposes to create a governing body for the estimated 400,000 Native Hawaiians in the U.S., is an Honorary Chair of the event.

This is the fifth installment of the Face of America series. The groundbreaking, multi-media and multi-disciplinary artistic adventure uses the rich language of the performing arts to spotlight the cultural heritage of the people who live in and around our National Parks.
