"You Oughta Know" - VH1 fills you in on artists on the rise. Get acquainted with these essential new artists.
Corinne Bailey Rae - This British songbird enjoys the lithe pop vibe of her self-titled debut's soul 'n' jazz arrangements. But there are pockets of grit in this album as well, thanks to Rae's past experience fronting an indie rock band and from her love of Led Zeppelin. The results are honest, intimate and soulful songs.
KT Tunstall - KT Tunstall has become a sensation in Great Britain with her soulful style of songwriting. Her debut, "Eye to the Telescope" is an intimate album with a rock crunch that comes from an appreciation for the beats of Bo Diddley.
Hinder - Post grunge rockers, Hinder, make lust and debauchery a central theme to their songs and their gigantic riffs on the guitar combine to make teenagers lustful and parents upset.
Snow Patrol - Snow Patrol's ability to blend the sounds of smooth ballads and sharp guitars prompted the world to take notice with "Final Straw" and their new album "Eyes Open" prove they are here to stay.
What's on VH1 Classic?
The latest installment of VH1's Rock Docs. "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" premieres on VH1 Classic on Friday, September 8 at 8:00 PM/ET. The film follows 30-year old anthropologist and avid metal music fan Sam Dunn's journey into the heart of heavy metal to study the plight of a different culture, one he has been a part of since he was a 12-year old: the culture of heavy metal.
Dunn journeys through America and Europe, visiting metal landmarks including L.A.'s famed Sunset Strip, the dirty streets of Birmingham, UK and the dark forests of Norway while following tours and attending open-air metal fests all while documenting people's opinions about the scene. Throughout the film fans weigh in, as well as metal gods including Rush's Geddy Lee, Ronnie James Dio, Alice Cooper, Motorhead's Lemmy, musician and horror icon Rob Zombie, Motley Crue's Vince Neil and Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson about the stereotypes of heavy metal music and why this music genre is still loved so passionately by millions of fans. Dunn also explores metals' obsession with
some of life's most provocative subjects -- sexuality, religion, violence and death and discovers some things about the culture that even he can't defend.
The special will re-air on Friday, September 8 at 11:00 PM and Saturday, September 9 at 5:00 PM and Sunday, September 10 at 1:00 PM.
Launched in May 2000, VH1 Classic is a 24-hour network that present videos, concerts and music specials all day long, featuring the best of rock, soul and pop artists from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s, including The Beatles, The Stones, Tina Turner, Led Zeppelin, Marvin Gaye, The Who, Stevie Wonder, The Police and many more.
