Philadelphia Honors The Dixie Hummingbirds with Street Name

Group Features City Mural on CD Cover

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Seven blocks of West Poplar Street from Broad through 21st Street will be re-named "Dixie Hummingbirds Way" in a colorful and festive celebration on Tuesday, September 26, 2006, 11:00am, at Broad and Poplar Streets.

The brief ceremony will conclude with the unveiling of the street sign "Dixie Hummingbirds Way" by Governor Edward G. Rendell, the first Dixie Hummingbird James B. Davis, and the "last man standing" Ira Tucker Sr. will be joined by current and former group members.

Following the reveal at approximately 11:30am The Heavenly Horns Brass Band will lead a (one block) "ceremonial walk," up Dixie Hummingbirds Way, to 15th Street and into Second Pilgrim Baptist Church, where The Dixie Hummingbirds' new CD (Still...Keepin' It Real / The Last Man Standing) will be premiered (lunch and give-a-ways for press and guests only.)

Still...Keepin' It Real / The Last Man Standing, conceptualized and produced by old friends and native Philadelphians Ira Tucker Jr., Tony Beck and LaDeva Davis, will be the first CD to have a Philadelphia Mural for its cover art. "This is really a Philadelphia project," states Producer Tucker Jr. "A conscious effort was made to tap into the wealth of the extraordinary talent available in this area."

"Dixie Hummingbirds Way" honors the legacy of the last of the first order of quartet singers The Dixie Hummingbirds. Still...Keepin' Real / The Last Man Standing CD opens a window to the future and the preservation of their legacy.
