Carl and Molly Peterson (Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson) are just settling into married life when Carl's best friend Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) loses his home and his job. A slacker with the soul of a poet, Dupree just can't seem to catch a break. Feeling sorry for him, the couple invites the free-wheeling bachelor to crash on their couch for a few days. But several catastrophes later -- including fires and floods -- it becomes all-too-clear that Dupree has become the houseguest-from-hell who wreaks nothing but chaos on their lives. SYNOPSIS

Fresh from their Hawaiian honeymoon, newlyweds Carl and Molly Peterson (Matt Dillon and Kate Hudson) take in Carl's best man, Randy Dupree (Owen Wilson) after he loses his job for attending their wedding. Party animal Dupree quickly overstays his welcome with Molly by plunging the Peterson's well-ordered household into comic chaos with his irrepressible bachelor shenanigans. But while Carl is preoccupied with the demands of his unreasonable boss -- and father-in-law -- (Michael Douglas), Dupree's offbeat charm works its magic on the lady of the house, throwing Carl into jealous doubt in the process.
