JOURNALISTS AT RISK - Discussion at LA Press Club this Thursday 9/14

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Last week San Diego investigative reporter John Mattes was attacked by the subject of one of his stories. The assault was caught on camera. Other attacks are not as easy to prove.

While covering a story for KABC near downtown Los Angeles in June Sandy Wells claims he was assaulted and harmed physically and emotionally. Hear Wells' story and discuss what it means for journalists, their employers, and the First Amendment.

Buck Tharp is a veteran war correspondent that covered the war in Vietnam, the L.A. riots, the wars in Bosnia, Kosovo and many other war scenes. He was also an assistant boys varsity basketball coach, San Pedro High School during six years. He will explain how coaching teenaged boys of all races, and traveling to games throughout LA, helped him both as a journalist and to know the city and the cultures.
