Anorexic Stars Turn To Pastor Desiree Ayres - 3 Day NY Appearance

Anorexic Stars Turn To Pastor Desiree Ayres - 3 Day NY Appearance

Famed Stuntwoman Turned Pastor Available for Interviews, Soundbites!

NEW YORK, Sept. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- With New York Fashion Week wrapping up and models looking thinner than ever -- plus the recent craze of skinny celebrities in Hollywood, everyone is seemingly "thinking thin." A new study from the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery shows that 20% of our entire population aspires to have plastic surgery like liposuction. Is this thinking healthy? What effect is this "craze" having on our children?? And what are the pressures to be dangerously thin in the industry? Desiree Ayres knows them first-hand. Desiree grew up in Hollywood where her family's profession was stunt work. Her father, Hubie Kerns, was the stunt double for Adam West on the TV show, Batman. Desiree grew to be one of Hollywood's top-working stuntwomen, working on such shows as Dukes of Hazard, Remington Steele and the Fall Guy. The pressure of having to body double for skinny actresses including Catherine Bach, sent Desiree into bouts of compulsive binge-eating that led to anorexia and bulimia.

She struggled with her food addictions for ten years. Desiree turned to her faith in God, and decided to leave her stunt career. She found solace and healing for her eating disorders through spirituality.

Along with husband Mel, Desiree began a new career -- preaching to Hollywood churchgoers at the In His Presence Church, Woodland Hills, CA, who are fighting their own battles with addictions and eating disorders. Since 1993, the Ayres have seen the church grow from a handful of people to well over a thousand members, many of whom are dealing with the Hollywood adage of "You can't be too thin."

With so many Hollywood stars wasting away, there has never been a more important time to address the problem of what Desiree calls "God Hunger." Her book, God Hunger, teaches her flock how to use principals of religion to address addictions and eating disorders.

Pastor Desiree has appeared on The 700 Club, TBN and Phil Donahue, as well as at various churches and women's conferences across the country. She resides in Agoura, CA, along with her husband Mel and their son, Joshua.

Stunt footage b-roll of Desiree along with shots of her preaching at her church is available for media use. Desiree is in the NY Area until September 21st.
