Colorado Film Commission Names New Executive Director
DENVER, Sept. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Board of Directors of the Colorado Film Commission recently named Kevin Shand as the new Executive Director of the Colorado Film Commission.
Prior to moving to Colorado in 2005, Shand was the Stanislaus County (California) Film Commissioner. Shand began working with the Colorado Film Commission last December and was named Interim Executive Director in May.
In addition to serving as a county film commissioner in California Shand is the founder of the Central Valley Film & Video Regional Roundtable (a group of nine county film offices, in California's San Joaquin Valley, stretching from Bakersfield in the south to Stockton in the north). He is also an active member of the Association of Film Commissioners International and was active with the Film Liaisons in California Statewide (FLICS) program. He was elected as founding member of the Board of Directors for a new FLICS non-profit organization in 2004 before moving to Colorado in 2005.
Colorado Film Commission Chairman Craig Meis says the film commission is glad to have Shand as its new Executive Director.
"We are pleased to have someone of Kevin's caliber running the day to day operations of the Film Commission. He is extremely knowledgeable about the film industry and a very capable administrator. He'll be a real asset and a great spokesman for the state," Meis stated.
During the past several months, Shand has been focused on handling production inquiries and making referrals to Colorado's Community Film Liaisons and to other production related businesses and individuals across the state. In addition, he has been working to implement the Colorado's first film incentive rebate program that the legislature authorized at the end of the last legislative session.
Shand is not the only new person at the Film Commission. The Film Commission board itself has recently expanded with the addition of several new members. Joining the board are Sarah Beatty, President of the Colorado Film & Video Association, and a Producer at Sopris West Educational Services, Duke Hartman, Chief Operating Office of High Noon Entertainment and Ken Seagren, owner of Lighting Service Incorporated.
Also, in an effort to be more representative of the entire state, the Board recently added John Cohen, Executive Director of the Durango Tourism Association, and Marianne Virgili, Executive Director of the Glenwood Springs Chamber Resort Association and an Association of Film Commissioner's International certified Film Commissioner.
The other members of the Colorado Film Commission Board of Directors are:
