Tonight, citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses and local officials in close to eleven-thousand communities from all 50 states, U-S territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide, will join forces to mark the "23rd Annual National Night Out." It's sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch in partnership with Target and the U-S Department of Justice. Nationally, over 34 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime" this year.

Minneapolis, which is one of the top National Night Out cities each year, will be home to over eleven-hundred national night out block parties citywide. The City of Philadelphia will celebrate National Night Out for the entire week. In Mandeville, Louisiana, an area devastated by Hurricane Katrina a year ago, citizens will honor police and firefighters at their Night Out celebration.

GSA Alerts Public to Recent E-mail Scheme

The U-S General Services Administration's Office of Citizens Services and Communications is warning the public to avoid falling victim to a recent e- mail scheme that targets users by sending unsolicited e-mails allegedly from FirstGov, the citizen portal operated by G-S-A. These scam e-mails tell recipients that because of recent fraudulent activities on Money Access Online they need to confirm their account has not been stolen or hacked. The e-mails then direct recipients to click on a link and enter information related to personal credit card accounts.

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Shakira Top '2006 MTV Music Awards' Nominations With Seven Each

From the historical and scenic Top Of The Rock Observation Deck at Rockefeller Center, M-T-V announced the nominees for the "2006 M-T-V Video Music Awards." Shakira and The Red Hot Chili Peppers topped the list with seven nominations each for "Hips Don't Lie" and "Dani California" respectively. Madonna's "Hung Up" and Panic At The Disco's, "I Write Sins Not Tragedies," follow with five nods while Christina Aguilera received four nods for "Ain't No Other Man." It was also announced that Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, T-I, Panic At The Disco, Ludacris and The Killers are scheduled to perform on the big show.
