Eleanor Schano was a Pittsburgh television pioneer. She spent
more than two years on this autobiography which is part history
book and part memoir. The book chronicles how she challenged
traditional women's roles which later carved the template for all
reporters to follow. She shares not only photos and scenarios of
her celebrity encounters, but the pages are also filled with
courage, humor and inspiration which she hopes empowers women --
and men -- to make a difference.
HOW: "Riding the Air Waves: The Life and Televised Times of Eleanor
Schano" is published by JMF Publishing of Pittsburgh. Included in
the book are more than 50 years of photos from Eleanor's personal
collection. Reflections written by local and national broadcast
professionals, including KDKA-TV's Mary Robb Jackson, WAMO's Bev
Smith, Lynn Cullen of WPTT Radio, and former Kansas City news
anchor, Christine Craft, are also featured in the book.
