Italian Film Festival of Marin Announces 30th Season Program Including Special Screening of Treasured Italian Silent Film
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., Aug. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Lido Cantarutti, director of the Italian Film Festival of Marin County, announced today the films for the seven-week fall festival. The program features recent films exploring the dramatic and comedic range of Italy's filmmakers. Cantarutti said, "We're excited to feature a new film by one Italy's most acclaimed directors, Pupi Avati, and a special closing night presentation of a treasured Italian silent film with a new musical score accompanied in person by the composer. Pupi Avati's films are always a hit with our audience, and this year's film, When Do the Girls Show Up?, is certain to bring the enjoyment of witnessing the development of young lives and their careers in music, and including comic elements and a rich melodic backdrop."
"The highlight of this year's roster is La Grazia, a 1929 Italian silent film in a newly restored print and new musical score," added Cantarutti. "The composer, Maestro Romeo Scaccia, will be here to perform the piano accompaniment to his original score. One of the most beautiful Italian silent films, this story was inspired by writings of Nobel Prize-winning Sardinian author Grazia Deledda. The film reminds us how accomplished and artistic screen acting was in silent films."
The films selected for the festival are:
September 30 My Best Enemy (Il mio miglior nemico), comedy, 2006, directed by Carlo Verdone
October 7 The Fever (La febbre), romance, 2005, directed by Alessandro D'Alatri
October 14 Manuel of Love (Manuale d'amore), 2005, comedy, directed by Giovanni Veronesi
October 22 Good Morning, Night (Buongiorno, notte), 2003, historical drama, directed by Marco Bellocchio at the Lark Theater
October 28 13 at a Table (13 a tavola), 2004, romantic comedy, directed by Enrico Oldoini and starring Giancarlo Giannini
November 4 When Do the Girls Show Up? (Ma quando arrivano le ragazze?), 2004, drama/romance/comedy, directed by Pupi Avati
November 11, La Grazia, 1929, love story, directed by Aldo De Benedetti
The films are shown two times in the Marin Center Showcase Theatre in San Rafael, CA and at the Lark Theater in Larkspur, CA. Single tickets are $12 each. A series ticket for all seven films is $77.
