5th Anniversary 9/11 Film's Theme Song Pays Tribute to Ground Zero's 'Everyday Heroes'

5th Anniversary 9/11 Film's Theme Song Pays Tribute to Ground Zero's 'Everyday Heroes'

WILMINGTON, Del., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- When filmmaker Lou Angeli sought the perfect theme song to underscore his new 9/11 documentary "Answering The Call: Ground Zero's Volunteers," dozens of musicians and songwriters responded. But one tune immediately caught his ear. A ballad entitled "Everyday Heroes," written by LA songwriters Harriet Shock, Geoff Levin and Alena.

"Answering The Call is the story of thousands of selfless, dedicated people," says Executive Producer, Patricia Olesky. "Brave men and women who had to ask themselves, 'Should I go?'" According to Olesky, the answer was simple even though Ground Zero was the most dangerous place on earth at that moment, "They just had to be there." Olesky adds, "They weren't concerned about their own safety and comfort. There was a job to be done."

The documentary offers a message of hope and Lou Angeli strongly believes that "Everyday Heroes," as well as Geoff Levin's emotional soundtrack, not only supports the important message, but enhances it as well. Levin's arrangement is taken to new heights by vocalist Caralynee Percy, whose three- octave range brought the East Coast production team to a standstill while they listened to the rough cut as it streamed through their computer. "We were in tears," director Angeli says. "It was clear that Geoff was on our wavelength and shared our vision."

Developing the theme song, as well as the entire musical soundtrack, was a bi-coastal venture, with Angeli cutting the images and narration in Wilmington, Delaware, and Levin creating the music at Geoff Levin Music in Burbank, California. For a month last summer, the duo worked together uploading music and video files at the end of each work day, then downloading the soundtrack to play against the video in the morning.

"It was an incredibly wonderful collaboration," Angeli says, "and by the time Geoff and I finally met in August 2005, well, it was like getting together with an old friend."

The producers are offering "Everyday Heroes" to radio broadcasters, music websites and music portals to share with their audiences. The music video version of the tune, which appears on the official DVD, is ideal as a program opener for agencies and individuals who are planning 5th anniversary commemorations of the events of 9/11/01.
