More Than One Thousand Barbra Streisand Tickets Have Been Invalidated by Ticketmaster Following Discovery of Ticket Fraud and Illegal Purchase Activity
Warning Issued Regarding Invalidated Tickets Discovered for Sale on Secondary Resale Sites
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif., Aug. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- More than one thousand tickets to Barbra Streisand's upcoming national concert tour that were fraudulently purchased from Ticketmaster using stolen credit card information have been invalidated. These invalid tickets have turned up for sale on various Internet resale sites. The tour's national promoter, Michael Cohl, Ticketmaster and Ms. Streisand's manager, Martin Erlichman, cautioned consumers today that these fraudulently purchased and invalidated tickets purchased from unauthorized resellers will not allow the ticket holder to gain admission to the venue on the night of the show.
"It is a serious violation of the law to try to buy concert tickets using stolen credit card information and, when successful, to resell those tickets to unknowing consumer victims through resale web sites," said Sean Moriarty, President and COO, Ticketmaster. "With the Streisand tour the unusually high number of incidents of fraud has prompted us to issue this specific warning. A list of the Streisand tickets that have been cancelled to date is available for reference on Ticketmaster.com at www.ticketmaster.com/barbrastreisand. We are working closely with law enforcement to identify the source of this fraud and prosecute to the full extent of the law."
Martin Erlichman explained, "More than one thousand fraudulently purchased and invalidated tickets have been identified so far and we know for certain that some of those tickets have been posted for resale on several ticket resale web sites. Fans who have purchased or who are considering purchasing Barbra Streisand tickets on those sites are not guaranteed admittance to the venue. The 'buyer beware' adage applies here more than ever."
"With the overwhelming number of cancelled tickets accessible for sale in the secondary market, it's imperative that we warn consumers that Barbra Streisand tickets purchased from unauthorized resellers may not work at the door on the night of the show," said Michael Cohl of CPI Concerts. "The only way for fans to know that their tickets are valid is to purchase their tickets from venue Box Offices or from Ticketmaster, the venues' authorized ticketing company. We're hoping this warning will help to protect fans not only from losing their money, but also from missing the opportunity to attend a concert they've waited so long to see."
