Hollywood Discovers the Women of Roller Derby
LOS ANGELES, July 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Kaliber Films proudly announces the acquisition of ROLLER BABES, a novel by D. M. Bordner (a.k.a. Tim Patten), set in America circa 1950s, women's roller derby.
After optioning the rights to the novel, Kaliber Films president, Laurence N. Kaldor, said, "We're seeking to put together a team of interested talent because, when the story is told appropriately (non-exploitive) it potentially can be as compelling as A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, another film about women in a men's-sports world. Also, the Roller Derby has long been a part of American popular culture. I think we can do for roller derby what BULL DURHAM or BAD NEWS BEARS did for baseball."
