Starz Summer of Marathons Warms up the Dog Days With Cool Entertainment

Starz and Encore Present Five Marathons -- Four Different Channels: Superheroes, Cop Films, World TV Premieres, Hitchcock & Mutant Animals Plus Three Original Specials

ENGLEWOOD, Colo., June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- What could be better than having a great destination this summer? No, we're not talking healthy, like outdoors at the beach or camping with family or friends. We're talking about sitting in front of your big screen (but with no sun screen), your favorite beverage, a comfy pillow... and Starz. Four different Starz and Encore channels will feature five day-long marathons, so this summer it's time to hit the couch:

* WHEN COMIC BOOKS ATTACK! On Starz -- A 24-hour marathon of comic book-
inspired films, starting at 6 a.m. June 25 and featuring: "Hellboy,"
"Sin City," "Blade: Trinity," "Tank Girl," "Steel," "Judge Dredd," and
"Nick Fury: Agent of Shield." In addition to these films, Starz airs a
half-hour original special "Starz The Hollywood Reporter: Comic Books on
Film" examining the ever increasing trend of turning comic books into
movies. The special features exclusive interviews with Brandon Routh,
the new Superman, Christian Bale of "Batman Begins" and Hugh Jackman and
Halle Berry of "X-Men: The Last Stand," among others. "Comic Books on
Film" premieres on Starz at 6:30 p.m. June 25th.

* Summer Heat: 31 Days of Cop Movies On Encore -- Every night in July
starting at 8:00 p.m. you get pulled over with action-packed cop films.
The "Summer Heat" marathon kicks off July 1 with an original special
"Shooting the Police: Cops on Film," which investigates the cop movie
phenomenon with some of Hollywood's most intriguing cop movie
filmmakers, actors and personalities. Book-em all for the month,
Danno... Some of the films featured are: "Die Hard," "Die Hard With a
Vengeance," "Hostage," "Nighthawks," "Demolition Man," "Heat,"
"Robocop," "Robocop 2," "Robocop 3" and "Rush Hour."

* Starz Cinema World Television Premiere Week: On Starz Cinema -- If you
can't stand the heat, join actress Fairuza Balk ("Almost Famous,"
"American History X") as she hosts a day-long marathon of world
television premieres starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29th. The
films have appeared in film festivals such as Cannes, Toronto, New York,
Telluride and Sundance, but have never been shown on television until
now. The week of world television premieres begins airing at 10:00 p.m.
on Sunday July 23, culminating in the marathon on the 29th. From the
channel with the best and newest in art-house cinema, don't miss your
chance to see these films for the first time on television: "2046" which
premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, "Ladies in Lavender" featured at
the Toronto Film Festival, "Saraband" which premiered at the New York
Film Festival, "The Best of Youth" featured in the Telluride Festival,
"Pretty Persuasion" and "November," which both had their debut at the
Sundance Film Festival.

* A Hitchcock Birthday Celebration: On Encore Mystery -- Celebrate the
birth of the "master of suspense" -- Alfred Hitchcock -- with a marathon
of his films beginning with an original special called "Hitchcocked," an
exciting primer that examines Hitchcock's influence on today's
filmmakers, including James Wan ("Saw"), Keith Gordon ("Dressed to
Kill"), Joe Dante ("Gremlins"), Stuart Gordon ("Re-Animator"), Carl
Franklin ("High Crimes") and others. The special airs at 8:00 p.m. on
Friday, August 11, and the marathon culminates on his birthday, Sunday,
August 13. There is no other director in the history of motion pictures
who is more widely recognized, respected and revered. Hitchcock classics
included in the marathon are "Rear Window," "Psycho," "The Birds,"
"Vertigo," "The Man Who Knew Too Much," "Rope" and "Notorious."

* Animals Gone Wrong: On Encore Mystery -- wrap-up the summer marathons
by lounging with giants rats, killer worms, deadly snakes, evil sharks
and mutant spiders all day long August 19th beginning at 10 a.m.
"SSSSSSS," "The Food of the Gods," "Squirm," "Blue Demon" and "Arachnia"
are guaranteed to make your skin crawl.
